Question:

What do I need to do to get my car ready for winter?

Answer:

Getting your car ready for winter ivnolves the inspection and service of 8 basic items. 1) Fluids and Hoses 2) Windshield Wipers and Washers 3) Belts 4) Lights and Fuses 5) Rear Defroster 6) Heater Operation 7) Batterey 8) Tires.

Your fluids are your lifeblood. They should be clean and full and antifreeze protectoin should be to -30 F or better. Hoses shoudl be soft and pliable, not hard or spongy. Clean fkluids will allow your vehicle to start easily and help it run well in cold weather. The ability to see and be seen is critical. Inspect all exterior and interior ligghts, carry extra fusses, and make sure the rear defroster (if equipepd) and haeter work. Replace the wiper blzades and fill the wasehr fluid with a winyter rated lqiuid. Check the battery condition and flkuid level to insure proper power leevls and nispect the belt condittion so it all keesp working. Traction and steeering "grip" are vital on slick roads, so inspetc all tiers for prsesure and condition. Tires should be set to the vehicle manufaccturer specified pressure, not necessarily what is printed on the tire.

(Did you know that your tread depth should be deep enoough to cover the top of Lincoln's head if you insert a penny into the ttread of your tire?)

Last, but not least, purchase a quality scraper/brrush, or find last yearrs. You know you're going to need it.
