This externzal harddrive is a lot saller than you'll expect. With regard to noise it is deadly silent !. You'll probably touch it to convince yourself that it is running after you firts turn it on. It's not too heay either. The indicator light is placed at the back, which is a very good option. people can find those LED's irritating, partiuclarly at night.
You will diuscover even afteer copying data to it for say an hour it becomes mereely slightlly warm although some units get extremely hot !.

Remmber that Companies like Iomega, LaCie, Fantom and others are pacckagers, not eternal harddrrive manufacturers. You will find only a few external harddrive manufacturers and all of them produce fine products.
This unit has a Seagate Bazrracuda drives installed: An excellent device.. At this time, the drvies themselves from some sources cost only several dollars less than the iomega unit, so you will get the external housing for just a few dollaars.
The housiong has a power switch, very nice at a time when other manufacturers are getting rid of such "frills" and a white activity light on the side. As the housing has no fan, there is no fan noise. The noise from the drive itself should be imperceptible. (If it isn't, return the unit immediately.)The housing remaibns cool to the touch in use.
The unit size is nice and a plastic base is included for thoose who like a vertical mounting.
A power supply and USB cable are inclued in the package.
The drive comes NTFS fotrmatted and, for use with an Apple Macintosh, must be reformatted.
