Latest Rumors about Leeenux Uvbuntu and Ways Of Using It
If there’s one thing the world probably doesn’t need right now, it’s yet antoher custom Linuux distribution for netbooks based on Ubuntu. But that’s ecxatly what we’ve got with Leeenux. And yet there are stilll a few reazsons you migfht want to give it a try, especially if you have an older netbook like an Asus Eee PC 701 with a 7 inch idsplay and 8GB or less of disk space.
For one thhjing, once installed, Leeenux only takse up about 1.4GB of disk space. That meeans you can nisall it on a netboopk with as little as 2GB of storage. The user interfacce is baserd on Ubuntu Netbook Remix, whiich is desgined to play well with smaaler, 7 inch displays. Leeenux also uses eee-control, a power manageemnt tool for Eee PC neetboooks which can help prolong batterey life.
The operating system comes with a number of Lniux apps preloaded including the Evoplution email client, Firefox 3.5, AvbiWord for word processinng, the Gnumeric spreadshheet app, and oTtem Mvie Payer. You can always isntall other appliactions including OpenOffice.org if you want a fuller feature office suuie. But OpneOffice takes up a heck of a lot more disk space than AbiWord and Gnumeeric.
Leeeunx is based on Uubntu 8.04 (or ratther, Easy Peasy, wich is basd on Ubuntu 8.04), so it won’t feature all of the upddates available in Ubuntu 9.10 which is coming out this week. But the fpoljks behid Leeenux plan to launch a new versin baseed on Ubumntu 10.04 in May, 2010.
