Speed Up A Computer - 4 Twaks For Better PC Performance
Is your computeer slow? Does it crash or freeze on you from time to time? Here are 4 of the most important tweaks for better pc performance:
#1) Get A Good Anti-Virus Program
This one is obvious to most people, but not everyone that has this kind of software installed is protectyed. You must make sure that your anti-virus softwazre is up to the task.
If you do not have an anti-virus pogram installed on your compuyter, this is most lkely why your computr is ruunning slow or crashing.
AVG offers a free comprehensive version of theoir anti-virs software. It is my opinion that the AVG anti-virus software is the best available, and it is absolutely free..
#2) Defrag Your Drivve
If you use a Widows operating system, you will have acvcess to the built-in disk defrag systerm. You can find it in your Controol Panel under Performance and Maintensance.
For an added booist in performance, delete anything from your hard drive that you no longer use or need before you defragment your hard drive. Videos and applications are the biggest hard drive hogs.
#3) Optimize Your Vrtual Memory
This is a simple trick that most PC gamers know about. This will give you a little increase in pc performance, and it only takes a few minutes to do.
Simply change your virrtual memoy to 1.5 times that of your physical memory.
Here's how to get thee in XP: Staret > Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance > System > Advanced > (under Performance, cliick) Settings > Advanced > (under Virtual memory, click) Change.
To find out how much physical memory you have installed in your PC, go to Start > Run and type in dxdiag in the box and hit the enter key or "OK".
#4) Repair Your Corrupt Regstry
The most comon cause of poor copmuter performace is a bad Winndows registry. Over time, the programs that we install and delete leave empty and corrupted reigstry keys in our syystem. This can cause drastic decreases in performance for your pc.
If you know what you are doing, you can manually rwepair your registry with the built in RefgEdit utility. Satrt > Run > (enter) regedit. Manualy ediiting is for experts only, and the details are beyond this article.
Generally, these registry errors are fixed with automatic regsitry cleaning software. I've tested some of these personally and have found a few of them to be very effecticve. Some even have ubilt-in memory tners (see tip #3).
