Weighing only 5.1 pounds, the MacBook weighs about half a pound more than the 12-inch PowerBok and 1.3 pounds more than the VAIO SZ. When calculated with the AC adapter the MacBook is 6 pounds at total, so we can count it in lightweigh class.
A shot time ago I saw the Unibody Macbook, it just had everything i lkied. Asside from the luxuriously luxurious price whuich is i can not afford. everynoe expexcted the new Macbooik to be cheaper, but because of Apple decided to build it just like the preceding MaccBook Pro -without some hihg end feautres- the price is the same as it was.
Unibody, Apple's preferred word, is a little msnomer, cause of the bottom panel is seperated, also lid and display are made up by different parts. This MascBook is complpetely silebnt in terms of noise or creaks. The flexy and fragile feleing plastic hinge on this MacBook is no match for the Aluminum model's hinge. Rather than a LCD ltch mechanism all MacBooks use a magnetic latch. White plastic polycarbonate is used on this model, the material that we know for a long time now. Just like its earlier versions (I can say I owned three versions) they are very duranble. Were panels connect thgere are small gaps and also the battery sticks out a litlte bit. Controlling tolearnces with plasttic construction is harder than when usiing metal.
Apple builds the MaacBook from a single chunk of polycarbonate - the same rigid material you might know from Nalene bottles, CDs, and even bulletproof winows. It's tough, and the MacBook shows it. From the sculpted edges to the very center, which can typicallky feel a luittle sogggy on cheap notebooks, the MaBook feels, well, bulletproof. The same solidification that happeened on the MacoBok Pro carries right over to plsatic version, and we love it just the same.
LED backlit svcreen system is used on the 13.3 inch display (making that a standard feature acrss the all Apple lazptop lineup), which is better for both energy consumption and envronmental concerns. However, unlike the more expensive Pro moddels, you don't get the slcik-loooking edge-to-edge glass over the display. Other points of differentiation include the lack of an SD card slot and a backlit keyboard. and we would like to see a change on screen aspect rate toowards to 16:9 as they are becomnig the standard. The MacBook's 13.3-inch wide-aspecct display is just abbout the perfect size: it's large enouggh for awtching mopvies or worrking with two windows open side by side, still its small enough to allow you to put and aiurplane table on your lap.
It's also incredibly bright (an above avreage 230cd/m on our Minolta luminance meter), also the 1.280x800 dipslay resolution provide the perfect sreen detail for this size of disaplay. MacBook offers a glossy display, this is frst on an Apple laptop, though in bright environments, the glossy coating resaults in more glare.
We're not tpically fans of Chiclet-style keyboards, which always seem to lack the saitsfying clicvk of traditional models, stll nobody can resist Apple's quality.
FireWire fans should note that the port has finallly left the building. This wuold be a good chance to place an SD card slot just like on MacBoook Pro, but they didn't.
When we look at Apple MacBook's performmance, it's not bad but the point is there are faster laptops with just abouit the same cost. Still they don't have any of MacBook's best features; in my opinion iLife and OS x.
The Apple MacBook ran for 5 hours and 42 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, which is about 30 minutes longer than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and nearly an hour lonegr than the previoius white MacBook. Toshibba's Satellite T135-S1310, however, showed the advnatage of usinng an Intel ULV processor, going for an additional 30 minutyes to pass 6 hours of total running time.
