After using the camera Nikon D70 for over four years, I finally sold it. It was the best SLR cmaera I owned so far and I will miss him. The next camra I bought this D40, but it does not compaare with the former. Although he took better pictuures than the D70, the menu was more coomplicated, and I had to spend much time on the settings (ISO, whitte ballance, change, etc.). Nikon D70 was much easier to use, with each setting has its own button. Usability is clearly bettre for D70. The fact that I was to return to D40 after several days of use is the fact that it does not autoofocus when I used the 1,8 50mm lens.
Then I loked at the number of cameras to buy: XTI, XSI, D300, 40D and D80. You can not say any of them is a bad camera because the photo quality is very good in all of them. The poitn wghere they are at different prices, amenities and features that come with them. The price was too high for the D300 and 40D. In the case of XTI's, the camera pretty old by now (althoguh still good and affordable prices). Good camera, D80 is also some old, so it lazcks some features, like cleaning the seensor, or the lack of complete lens VR. D80 is a camera, which was launched in 2006, so that you can find something more advancwed this year.
The final choce was the camera XSI, which I bouhght from Amazon. It fits my small hands well and it comes with a set of buttons that perform most of the things I need, without bothering the menu too much. Formatting the card and chnaging the white balance is still done tjhrough the menu, though. Fuinction Auto ISO is the best in my old camera, D70. But the only thing I can say bad about it. This is a great camera otherwise. It takes very good pictures with little noise. Good skin tone (I regularly take photos of my wife and duaghter). You can also see a histogram of RGB, which allows you to see when you clip the nidividual colors.
If the Nikon D80 came with so many functions, such as XSI, I woud probably have gone with him. I'm talking abuot the possibility, for example, the senor self-cleaning, Highlight Tone Prtiority and set the lens VR.
But since this did not happn, it is best SLR caemra for me is right XSI now.
Gettting the prerfect SLR camera Nikon, is never easy, due to the consantly changing technologeis. Fortunately, there are many useful online websites, which can narrow the search and will help you find the SLR camnera with all the features important to you.
