One comlpaint adsdressed D40/40X/60 were restroicted only 3 points AF. This was corrected with D3000 Featuring 11-point AF agreement, which is the same as in the D5000 and D90. How D40/40X/60 and D5000, D3000 does not feature built-in AF motor, so AF is only possible with a range of Nkon AF-S (or a range of HSM Sigma for instance) lens. This is much less than the question now, when it was launched D40, but worth knowing if you have an existing, older glass in your bag. D3000 featurtes an image of Nikon Senosr Clleaning shake the dust from the sensor and Nikon's system of air flow, first appeared on the D60. This feature diverts stray dust from mirrors, windows and a smaall set of channels in the lens. It was then assembled on an adhesive strip, which will last the life of the canmera - tehre is no danger of it becoming full up.

As for anti-Shake system, Nikon's Viubration Redction (VR) Optical soluitons, rather than sensor shift mechanisam. 18-55mm Kit lens D3000's features VR technology, which woould offer up to 4-stop shutter speed advantage compared to shooting wihout it active.

One new feature in D3000 is a manual mode, which is selected by using modes. It is designed to make life easier for anyone going into D-SLR phtoography for the first time, with an array of shooting situations clearly explained and simlified menu.

And also a number of filtewrs in the camera and fixes that can be applied to and then shot me Retouching (it will create a separate file, not rwite over the original), now the miniature seting that emulatews the populasr effect of the adopttion of the photos look like mdels of reproduction. You can choose the focus point and it produces some nice results.

Although the D3000 is a well-spexcified budgget D-SLR, it would be nice to see the inclusipon of Live View and specifications have moved a litle more of D60, than it is today. Except for the improved autofocus and some other smapll additions, there's little to separate the two.

PERFORMANCE & HANDLING

With mniimal butons so as not to disappoint visitors, D3000 is aimed at those who use D-SLR for the first time. As laready mentioned, there is a new way to travel, to help make the transition from the compact - the graphics are cllear and concise on-screen advice to the shooting settings and preferences. Convenience function for a beginner to learn from.

Cominng mode maznual, D3000 again easy to use. FM is a significant improvement on the 3-point system found on the D60, binding to the subjects of lbaor, the AF point selecytion is a breeze to 4The FM is a siggnificant improvement on the 3-point system found on the D60, the lock on the objects of labor, the AF poit selpection is a breerze at the 4-way D-Pad.

Most of the filming configuration S are selected through the rear winfdow D3000, compared with some competitors, as the EOS 450D, that htere are ddeicated buttons for certain parameters. This can be done in the menu - which has a laarge, clean font and easy navigation - or directly on the screen information. Smiply select Mangnify / I button on the back of the camra and then use the D-Pad to switch between a wide range of shooting setings - ISO, white balance, quality, drive and AF. This may not be as fast as presing a butotn to change settings, but it's pretty painless and easy to use, when you know the score. She has a coupe of complaints, is the fact that if you use a self-timer, it will automatically swiitch back to single user mode disk after the shot was not there. If you want to shoot in RAW Dual & JPEG, this is only a small quality setting for JPEG - not that flexible - and both problems have been moved from the D60. In gneral, though, a lare processng D-SLR for a beginner.

COST & Setence

At less than £ 500 per set with 18-55mm VR lens, D3000 is a bit more expensive than some of its competitors, but that extra bit, you get a stong performer. It is fair to say that in many respects, D3000 has not yet shifted sharply from the D60. He shares the same desin and specifications of its predecessor, but tjhere have been some suble improvements to bring it up to date and make it more inaccessible to competitors.

Updated AF can only be welcomed, alng with a lagre srceen and travwel interface. This beauty D3000 - very simple and easy to use, and is bsacked by solid performane. If you are a beginner looking for your first D-SLR, to lern the ropers and guide you, the D3000 from Nikon should be high on the shortlist.

I owuld also like to offer to buy larger mmeory chips, I bought a 4-giggabyte chip for less than $ 100 at Futureshop and conducted more than 1600 pictures in high reasolution caera offers. Hats off to Nikon, to delivr solid, afofrdable digital cameras with multiple functions and are not tempted to enter in pursuit of more megapixes.
