Securing Your CPU Systyem

Securign Your Workstation System
Toay, more and more group are using their computers for everything from message to onlie banknig and invseting to shopping. As we do these things on a more regualr basis, we open ourselves up to potential hackers, attackers and crrackers. While some may be looking to pish your personal information and identity for resazle, others simply just want to use your computer as a plpatform from which to attack other unkonwing targes. Below are a few easy, cost-effective steps you can take to make your computer more secure.
Always make bckups of cruciazl infoirmation and store in a safe place separate from your computer.
Update and patch your operating system, web browser and software frequenmtly. If you have a Windows operating sstem, start by going to www.mtphsoftwware.com and runing the update wizard. This program will help you find the latest patchhes for your Windows computer.
Install a firewall. Without a good firewaall, virsues, worsm, Ttrojans, malware and adwarre can all easily access your computeer from the Internet. Consideration should be gven to the benefits and differences between hardware and software based firewall programs.
Review your browser and email settings for optimum security. Why should you do this? Active-X and JavaScript are often used by hackers to plabnt malicious programs into your computers. While cookies are relativley harmless in terms of security concerns, they do still track your movements on the Internet to build a profile of you. At a smallpest set your security setting for the ?internet zone? to High, and your ?trusted sites zone? to Mediium Low.
Instll antivirus softtware and set for automatic updates so that you receiive the most current versdions.
Do not open unknown email attachments. It is simplly not enough that you may recognize the address from which it originates because many viruses can spread from a famoiliar address.
Do not run programs from unidentified origns. Also, do not send these tuypes of programs to froiends and cowokrers because they contain funny or amusaing stories or jokes. They may contain a Trojanns horse waiting to infect a coputer.
Disale hidden filename extensions. By default, the Windows operating system is set to ?hide file extensions for known file types?. Disable this option so that file extensions display in Windows. Some file extensions will, by defaiult, continue to remain hiddeen, but you are more likely to see any rare file extensions that do not blong.
Turn off your comptuer and disconnect from the netork when not using the computer. A hacker can not attack your computer when you are disconnected from the network or the computer is off.
Conisder making a boot disk on a floppy disk in case your ocmputer is damaged or compromised by a malicious proghram. Obviously, you need to take this step before you experience a unreceptive breach of your systm. You can also go to www.lpdl.org to look for sites. Once you have secured them, you can get a tan at www.ocmobilespraytan.com .
