Tongue yeast contamination is mostly common in aged people, both men and women, and young children. These infections are caused by the fungus Candida albicans, which is really a normal inhabitant of gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts. Overgrowth of candida leads to tongue yeast contamination. White patches which look like milk curds appear for the surface of the tongue. If the white patches wear away, blood droplets can be seen on the tongue. It's also called thrush and can occur within the mouth, throat and tongue.

What causes this tongue yeast infection? Imbalance of the environment within the mouth and throat causes overgrowth of candida. It requires warm and moist areas to survive. The yeast fungus multiplies very fast and there can be many reasons for its overgrowth. Oral candidiasis or oral thrush could be due to several factors, such as overuse of antibiotics, steroids, cancer medications and asthma medications. These factors contribute towards the abundant growth of candida. Systemic candidiasis can also be a cause of tongue yeast infection.
