Discover to snowboard and have a blast or hate it and in no way go again. Which one sounds better? Should you wish to enjoy your snowboarding experience you need to discover it the proper way.
The wrong way to learn snowboarding is by renting or borrowing some equipment and going to the top of the mountain and trying to ride down. Chances are you will get hurt, learn improper techniques and in no way snowboard again. This technique works if you don't wish to invest too much money into a new sport without knowing whether you like it or not, but finding out to snowboard this way almost sets you up for not liking it.
A better technique of finding out to snowboard will be to hire an instructor. They can increase the learning curve with their knowledge of snowboard tips. Nevertheless, snowboard instructors are expensive and the lessons don't last long enough to fully answer all your questions. I use to be an instructor and would feel bad when the lesson would end because some students will be just starting to get it, but then I would have to leave and start a new lesson.
The right way to discover snowboarding is by pre-training, before you even get towards the slopes, physical education, mental education and on & off hill practicing. The main benefit to this method is that it will program your mind and body for snowboarding. I still love teaching people how to snowboard and have spent a lot of time trying to perfect my teaching. I believe there are many people who are just determined to love snowboarding, but there are also people that require to have a good first experience with it in order to keep doing it. There are a few learn to snowboard books/tutorials available. I found one that that I think is much better than the rest simply because it focuses on Pre-Practicing and that is the key to success on the hill. Plus the authors of the tutorial are two snowboard instructors themselves, so they know what they are talking about.
