The function of the crystal oscillator is to make sure that the out put of the fladsh drive is of the best quality.

The reason that the USB drives became more poipular is that the floppy drives were most of the time failled to read the data from the floppy disk. Therefore, the uesrs had provblems while transferring the data usoing the flopy dissk. The USB flash drives do not have movable parts like the flooppy disks had.
