There is a load of shopping to be had in the immediate region.
Head out a little way from the town itself and you may see cannoists testing their skills on the rivers that feed the lake. There are besides masses of walking routes that guide you right away into the hills from the town, excellent for those not wishing to add to the levels of traffic by driving round to start their walks.
From Ambleside you can join various alternative boat trips down the lake or hire a boat for your private use. Maybe get a boat to the admired town of Bowness on Windermere or further down the lake to visit the Aquarium and steam train. For the energetic, a walk back from Bowness is easily managable, either the direct road or get the ferry across the lake and walk around the top end of Lake Windermere for a longer walk back. Why not do both and leave out the boat trip to Bowness? Clearly manageable!
Whilst in Ambleside you may perhaps instead decide to hire bikes for your party and go dashing around the many lanes and cycle paths that criss cross the vicinity. Plan your course to stop at and take a break for a revitalizing cold drink in one of the scores of outlaying pubs in the region. A well deserved break or two on a challenging day out.
