Some of my best fishing results were when I was able to get to some very hard to reach places. The problem I usually had was prop strikes and clogging while trying to get into those areas.Lurking just beneath the water was many large limbs that caused me plenty of headaches.

GETTING TO THOSE HARD TO REACH PLACES MAKES ALL OF THE DIFFERENCE!

I have had some of my best fishing when I was able to get into those thick lily's and moss covered areas. The only problem I had was the need to use a row boat or canoe to do it. I had to find a better way or become exhausted with all of the rowing that I was doing.

I do not quite know how or why it happened, but one day while I was coming back from fishing at one of my favorite spots, (a very heavy lily covered area) totally exhausted from rowing...I started thinking.(I do some of my best thinking while fishing)

How could I get to these types of cover without having to worry about Prop Strikes and Clogging?

Could I mount a battery powered trolling motor on my canoe? YEP..after all I had one on my rowboat. Once these thoughts started racing in my mind and the juices started to flow...IT HIT ME LIKE A TON OF BRICKS!

A Hovercraft build would solve all of my problems. Heck...With one of those I wouldn't even have to cart all of my gear to the lake. I could just gear up my hovercraft right in the garrage. Fire it up, glide out of the garage and accross the yard riding that cushion of air, right out onto the lake and be on my way!

PROBLEM SOLVED (I was grinning ear to ear)

I got a hold of a simple set of plans and got my project started. To my surprise, I had just about everything that I needed right in my garage and around the house already. THIS WAS GOING TO BE FUN...AND CHEAP!

Once I aquired all of the components for the hovercraft build it only took 1 weekend to put it all together!

Here is a simple list of the items that I used to complete my hovercraft build.

1. Plywood
2. 2 X 4's
3. Deck screws
4. Polyurethane
5. 2 Garden Tractor engines (that I got at a garage sale..for pennies)
6. Throttle cable
7. Skirting material (that I also got at a garage sale)
8. 2 large Air Conditioner Cooling Fan Blades with cover sreens (garage sale too:)

When it was all said and done, I only spent about $250 on the total build. And now I get into places that others only dream of with lot's of open space to manuever around.

YEP...I GET RIGHT IN AND RIGHT OUT OF THOSE HEAVILY COVERED AREAS WITH NO PROBLEMS NOW!

And I got a special bonus...

The kids just love riding around on it! IT'S FUN FOR EVERYONE!
