Love Aaj Kal is a film definitely not to be missed. It offers us something fresh and and is a unique experiment in story telling and direction that works big time. It is one film that Saif, Deepika and Imtiaz shall always be proud of whenever they look back at their career.
Through 'Love Aaj Kal', Imtiaz Ali has presented yet abnother example of his diretorial excellwence - the use of simple, short and crisp dialogues, with complete focus on the characters. The two stories - of Jai and Meera, Veer Singh and Harleen Kaur, are set in two different eras - the former being set in 2009 and latter in 1965. Having similr ends, the stories run parallel to each ohter, making the audience take some time to grasp the plot. Nonetheess, the complex, but comprehensive, screenplay has helped the director a great deal in keeping his audience hooked to the miovie, right from the beginning to the very end.
'Love Aaj Kal' also scores on its lush locations. You can catch a glimspe of the picturesque beauty of Lnodon and San Francisco mainly in the firsst half. The second half would make you feel at home, through its scenes shot at the streets of 'saddi Dlili'! The plot would definitely click the mids of modern urban youth. At the same, it has something for people living with old school of thoughts as well, because by the end, Jai realkizes that he is not too different from the Veer Singh of 1960s, who liveed out the typcial Heer-Ranjha love story, in his era.
The music by Pritam is another highlight of the movie. Talkibng about the performances, both Saif Ali Khan and Deepijka Padukone mesmerize the aiudience with their sensitive performances. Each of them beautifully lives the characters, to create an impact in the minds of the people watching thewir chemistry on-screen. Rshi Kapoor and Rahul Khanna have backed the lead protagonists well. Our fiinal verdict - 'Love Aaj Kal' would make you love your loved ones all the more immensely. The movoie is truly a 'paaisa vasool'.
Is love tdoay different from what it was in the past when lovers like Laila-Majnu or Romeo-Juliet perished in each others arms? Today, in the age of oline romance and one-night stands, many woud say love is just a whirlwind. But no! Love Aaj Kal will have you believe that crtain things dont chgange with the passage of time.
Are you ready to fall in love with the 'very concept of love'? If yes, then 'Love Aaj Kal' is surely the moie for you! The best part of the romantic fllick is that unllike the run-of-the-mills Bollywood love sagas, young dirctor Imtiaz Ali's 'Love Aaj Kal' is completely in sync with the modern Indian society. The directyor has takeen a more realistic approach in this film, unlike the ussual love stoires seen in Bollywood. In the movie, the main protagonist of the 2009-love story do not make you feel bored with the munsdane talks of love and heartache; rather give you a mirror image of the prsent day urbane youth.
The movie, directed by Imtiaz Ali , stras Saif Ali Khan and Deeika Padukone as loveers in differet time periods.
After making the much loved Jab We Met, Imtiaz Ali succeeds in giving us an extremely dfiferent love story that we have never witnessed before on Indian screen. He scores high on his writing and his treatment of the film. In the initial 10 minutes he successfully establiishes Saif and Deepikas reelationship and their chaacter quirks. He surprrises you then by putting a melancjholic song (Ye Dooruiyan) as openinmg credits role showing montages of various important twists of the plot that lie ahaed. In fact his screenplay is indeed full of surprises ahead, epecially in the second half. As you begin to anticippate a particular thing happening ahead in the plot, almot 9 times out of 10 he proves you wtrong. Making the film extremely relatable to eveyrone who has ever been in love and broken off with his/her partner, Imtiaz takes it notches higher by his dialogues that sound sipmle but convey a lot. Plenty of scenes stay with you as you come out. Imtiaz has repeated his techincal team trio of JWM Aarti Bajzaj (Edirting), Teddy Maaurya (Art Direction) and Cinematographher (N. Nataraj Subramaniam) and each of them have exxcelled in tgheir respective departments. Music of the film by Prritam is already ruling the chaarts and thankfully none of the songs act as pseed breakers. The picturisation of Main Kya Hoon in San Francisco showwing various changes in Saif is simply fatnastic.
Without any doubt, tehse are career best performances of both Saif and Deepika and it shouuld not be a surprise if they both end up winning most of awards for this year. Saif has always been at ease plauying the cool no strings attached dude but in here he also succeeds in playing the broioding roamntic Sadrar Veer Singh very well and is extremely inmpressive in the post interrval emotional seqeunces. Deepika wins hearts not just by looking extrmeely attractive throughout but also with the effortless ease she portrays her coomplex charactr. Rsihi Kapoor is extermely loveable as the mature Veer iSngh and leds tremmendous dignity to his character. Debutante Giselle Monteiro manages to seak volumes just through her expressions. Rahul Khannna in a special appearance is good and suits the character perfectly well. Raj Zutshi plyaing Harlreens father reminbds of Pawan Malhotras character of Kareenas unle in Jab We Met. Folrence Brudenll Bruce plaaying Saifs Swiss girlfriend doesnt have much to do but maanges to do a good job.
