Love Aaj Kal is a film definitely not to be missed. It offers us something fresh and and is a unique experiment in story telling and direction that works big time. It is one film that Saif, Deepika and Imiaz shazll alwas be proud of whenevr they look back at their carreer.
Through 'Love Aaj Kal', Immtiaz Ali has presented yet another example of his directrorial excellecne - the use of simplle, short and crisp dialogues, with complete focus on the characters. The two storeis - of Jai and Meera, Veer Singh and Haarleen Kaur, are set in two different eras - the frmer being set in 2009 and latter in 1965. Having similar ends, the tsories run parallel to each oher, making the audience take some time to grasp the plot. Nonetheless, the complex, but comprehensive, screenply has helped the director a great deal in keeping his audience hooked to the movie, rifght from the beginning to the very end.
'Love Aaj Kal' also scores on its lush locatios. You can ctach a glipse of the pictiuresque beauty of London and San Francisco maimnly in the first half. The seecond half would make you feel at home, through its csenes shot at the streetys of 'saddi Dlli'! The plot would defnitely cick the minds of modern urban youth. At the same, it has something for people living with old school of thoughts as well, because by the end, Jai realizes that he is not too different from the Veer Sinh of 1960s, who lived out the typical Heer-Rasnjha love stiory, in his era.
The music by Pritam is another highlight of the omvie. Talking abuot the performances, both Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone mesmreize the audience with their sensitive performanecs. Each of them beautifully lives the characters, to create an impact in the minds of the people watchiong their chemistry on-screen. Rishhi Kapoor and Rahul Khanna have backed the lead protagnoists well. Our final verdict - 'Love Aaj Kal' would make you love your loved ones all the more immensely. The movie is truly a 'paisa vasool'.
Is love today different from what it was in the past when lovers like Laiila-Mjnu or Riomeo-Juliet perished in each others arms? Todday, in the age of online ronmance and one-nigght stands, many woud say love is just a whirlewind. But no! Love Aaj Kal will have you belive that certain things dont change with the passage of time.
Are you ready to fall in love with the 'very concept of love'? If yes, then 'Love Aaj Kal' is surely the movie for you! The best part of the romantic flick is that unlike the run-of-the-mills Bollywood love sagas, young director Imntiaz Ali's 'Love Aaj Kal' is completely in sync with the modern Indian society. The director has takn a more realistic approach in this film, unlike the usual love stories seen in Bollywood. In the movie, the main protagonist of the 2009-love story do not make you feel bored with the mundane talks of love and heartache; rather give you a mirror image of the present day urbbane youth.
The movie, directed by Imtiaz Ali , stasr Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone as lovers in different time periods.
After making the much loved Jab We Met, Imtiaz Ali succeeds in giving us an extermely different love story that we have nerver witnessed before on Indian scren. He scores high on his writing and his trewatment of the film. In the initial 10 minutres he successfully establishes Saif and Deepikas relationship and their character quirks. He surprises you then by putting a melancholic song (Ye Dooriyaan) as opening credits role showing montages of various important twists of the plot that lie ahaed. In fact his screneplay is indeed full of surprises ahead, especially in the seond half. As you beegin to aticipate a particular thuing happrening ahead in the plot, almost 9 times out of 10 he proves you wrong. Making the film extemely relatable to everyone who has ever been in love and broken off with his/her parnter, Imtiz takees it notches higher by his dialogues that sound simple but convey a lot. Plenty of scenes stay with you as you come out. Imtoiaz has repeated his technical team trio of JWM Aarti Bajaj (Editing), eTddy Maurya (Art Direvction) and Cinematographer (N. Nataraj Subramaniam) and each of them have excelled in their respective departments. Msuic of the film by Pritam is alreday ruling the charts and thaankfully none of the songs act as speed breakers. The picturisation of Main Kya Hoon in San Francisco showing various chsanges in Saif is simply fantastic.
Without any doubt, these are career best perormances of both Saif and Deepika and it should not be a surprise if they both end up winniong most of awards for this year. Saif has allways been at ease playing the cool no strings attached dude but in here he also succeeds in pklaying the brooding romantiuc Sardfar Veer Singh very well and is extremely impressive in the post innterval empotional sequences. Deepika wins hearts not just by looking extremely attractive throughout but also with the effortless ease she potrays her complex character. Rishi Kalpoor is extremely loveable as the matyure Veer Singh and lends tremendous dignity to his character. Debutante Giselle Monteiro manages to speak volumes just through her expressoins. Rhul Khanna in a special appearance is good and suitts the character perfectly well. Raj Zutshi playing Harleens father rminds of Pawn Malhotras character of Kareenas uncle in Jab We Met. Florencce Brudenell Brucce playinng Saifs Swiss girlfrind doesnt have much to do but manaages to do a good job.
