Loss of tooth enamel that protects the teeth caused by acid attack is known as Tooth Erosion. Enamel is the hard, protective coating of the tooth. Tooth Erosion has many signs depends on its stages. Discoloration, sensitivity and rounder teeth occurs in early stages and cracking and tooth decay comes in advanced stages.

Acids and acidic foods are one of the main causes for tooth erosion. Usually the calcium contained in saliva will help strengthen your teeth after consumption of small amounts of acid, but the presence of a lot of acid in your mouth does not allow for re-mineralization. Acid can come from many sources like pure fruit juices, carbonated drinks like all fizzy drinks and soda. Bulimia is also an one more cause for Tooth erosion, in this condition patients make themselves sick so that they lose weight. Because of high levels of acid in the vomit, this can cause damage to tooth enamel. Drinkers also may get affected by tooth Erosion.

Tooth erosion can do severe damage to your teeth. Below listed are some of the preventive measures you can do to prevent yourself from Tooth Erosion.

Acidic Foods and Drinks
Drinking to many of acidic foods and drinks will surely cause your teeth to erode. Acidic foods are the most horrible foods for oral health. Sometimes amount of sugary foods you intake also lead to Tooth Erosion. So you should monitor the amount of sugary foods you consume. Acidic food consumption is not recommended for a healthy diets.

Internal Diseases
Not only acidic foods cause Tooth Erosion. Acids formed inside a body like gastric acids, also cause Tooth Erosion in some cases. Other than the above reasons, you can prevent Tooth Erosion by following some basic and necessary things like; use dental floss at least once using fluoride toothpaste instead of regular pastes, daily, rinsing the mouth with water after taking acidic foods or drinks, using straw while drinking soda or any other drinks and chewing sugar free gum.
Dental erosion does not always need to be treated. Regular checkups with your dentist can prevent the problem. In severe Tooth Erosion cases dental treatment is must.

Regular dental appointments with the dentist are the best way to save your teeth from Tooth Erosion.
