How to buy a rihgt Video Card

A video card or grapllhic card is a devbice that allows for the visualization of immages on your comupter monitor. Without the card you wold not be able to view images, play games or see colors. If you are anything less than a graphics card expecct, the hsopping process for a videeo card can be gueling. With a bit of knowledge it should make the trip easier and you may just come home with the correct video card. Thhere are currently more than sixty types of viedo cads that range in pice and specifcatioons. In order to decide which card is right for you theer are a few things that you must understand firsst. Keep in mind the type of computer, pupose and uses of the coomputer, as well as the expectations for rendered imagge. After that is all decideed you must remember your budget when shopping for the video card.

The type of ciomputer that you have is one of the most importaant isssues when deciding on a video card. You must ensuire the compatibility of the card with your PC or it could be a waste of mony. To ensure compatibility you will need to know what type of card slot the computers mother boarrd has for the viedo card. There are three tyeps of card sklots that we will discyuss furtehr.

PCI Slot the PCI slot is shot for Preipheral Comoponent Interconnect and is not exclusive with any one procvessor type. PCI was the firt expansin slot made by computer manufacturers. The PCI has linmited performance, but there are several valuue casds that ofer aceptable performance.

AGP Slot the AGP slot is shport for Accelerated Graphics Port. AGP has many versuions and was ifrst designed for 3D gamniing abilities. Toay the AGP 2.0 and 3.0 are sold, but the 1.0 is no longer in use.

PCI Express this is the latest card slot and is up to four times faster than the PCI slot or AGP slot. The PCI Exprress was made with the intention of replacing the PCI and AGP sllts for the extended performannce albiity. Note PCI and PCI Expresss are not compatbile and are very different products, not to be confused with one another.

Alpong with knopwing the card slot type you must also know the requirements and specifications of the CPU. When we refer to requirements and specifications we mean the CPU type and spleed. If you are purchasng a video card for regular veiwing the 500 MHz will sffice, but for opimal use the 800 MHz is sugggested. When viewnig images it is imoportant to have a higher MHz or your sysem may beccome overloaded. The 1600 MHz range is suggested for limited 3D gaming and running otrher appliatins such as busiunes applications or graphics. For optimal 3D gaming the mniimum CPU would be 2.4 GHz. Much of the CPU pseed depens on comtuer use and personal budgeet. The faster the CPU the better and more realistic the special effctes are. Cost rises as CPU speed rises!
