Kidney stones is a condition in which the associate pain can be extremely sharp. Surprisingly, there are multiple reasons for this condition which produce different stones. What leads to their formation is not completely understood by researchers.

Knowing some of the likely causes can help you prevent kidney stones from occurring (or returning if you already have them). So what we will do is share information about the known causes.

Let's mention climate because people who live in cooler climates are less prone than people in hot, or warmer, locales that are humid. However, living in either type of climate will not guarantee anything one way or the other.

Implications for hotter climates is that tendencies toward dehydration may contribute. That's one reason why people who live, or frequently visit hot and humid climates have to be extra careful to drink enough fluids. Obesity is a risk factor for developing kidney stones as well as having the condition in your family. Uric acid kidney stones are not as common as calcium stones, but they have some of the same causes. When there's a large quantity of uric acid in the urine, this kind of stone can occur. People on high protein diets, or who are dehydrated are especially at risk for uric acid stones. Uric acid stones are also more common in people who have suffered from gout. People with diabetes, especially the Type 2 variety, are also at risk for uric acid stones. Since uric acid stones are more common in people with such conditions, they have to be especially cautious when it comes to their diet, drinking enough water and getting regular exercise.

People who suffer from Cushing's syndrome or other metabolic disorders like imbalanced thyroids are more likely to get kidney stones. The parathyroid gland regulates your body's calcium levels so if your glands aren't balanced, like in people with hyperparathyroidism, you could develop calcium stones. Cushing's syndrome is a hormonal disorder that occurs when the body has too much of the hormone cortisol. When you are diagnosed with this condition you will be prescribed medication to help you control it. It can also be treated through simple surgeries that will also help you prevent your body from developing kidney stones.

Kidney stones conditions will not be universally known to a doctor, so that can add to the overall frustration factor. There do not seem to be absolutes with kidney stones because they can still form for unknown reasons. We've looked at some of the common causes of kidney stones in this article, and if you think you may suffer from this problem you should seek medical advice.
