Turkish Airlines, which is Europe's 4th largest airline carrier, is quickly moving into the position of becoming an airline industry leader. The airlines flies to locations around the round like Asia, Europe, North America, South America and is making plans to provide service in certain locations of Africa. This has been in the flying business for almost 80 years. This company has experienced many good and bad growing pains. However, the one thing that is very amazing, especially for a global airline, is the fact that not only are they still viable, but they are even more stronger today than ever.
By February 2011, Air Transport World, one of the airline industry's leading magazines, awarded Turkish Airlines the "2011 Market Leadership Award". This is an internationally recognized achievement for the airline that was presented during a ceremony held in Washington D.C.
The past few years have a produced very challenging economic environment for many global businesses. On a general basis, the airline industry tends to follow very similar movements to those of the global economy. The fact that Turkish Airlines has continued to show very strong profits during these times is a testimony to the strong and brilliant marketing leadership of this airline.
Financial statements showed that 2010 was a great year for Turkish Airlines as they showed a net profit of 169 million USD for a nine-month period. The company's overall revenue from sales grew substantially to 5 billion USD, or by 39%. With the intent of increasing revenue generated by business class passengers, the company is building a fleet that will consist of long-haul aircraft, specifically the Boeing 777-300ER. However, they also have plans for using the wide-body jets for international cargo hauls, as well. While last year's figures were not exactly expected, they were, nevertheless, quite pleasant. Adding fuel to the fire is the intensive marketing strategy the airline has adopted to increase brand awareness all over the globe. The company has targeted penetration of the US market as well as expansion in Asia.
Turkish Airlines has implemented a new form of traveling referred to as Comfort Class. This service is only offered by the airline on their new fleet of Boeing 777 airplanes. The level of comfort available is taken to a whole new level with seats that are almost 46 inches wide. In other words, you have four feet of seat to relax in. Keep in mind the Boeing 777 is a "heavy" class airliner designed for long-haul flights. Seating in Comfort Class can also be obtained by redeeming miles accrued on the Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles program. While Turkish Airlines does have quite a bit of a history, their start was quite rocky. Actually that is not so unusual for any airline because of the various kinds of challenges that need to be confronted. This company has undergone many changes, from the bottom up. The result is a strong and adaptable company that has learned from past mistakes. This article has offered a small look at the exciting changes going on at Turkish Airlines.
